What constitutes a beautiful portrait? In my opinion, an excellent example of a distinctive and beautiful portrait is The Girl with a Pearl Earring by Johannes Vermeer. I would never compare my photographic skills with the mastery of Johannes Vermeer, but I have been inspired by him to hone my ability to make portraits. I've tried to recreate Vermeer's style with my pet portraits ... a black background with an expressive face dominating the frame.
Taking the portrait of a dog can be very easy or somewhat difficult ... the dog portrait shown here was taken in less than a minute ... some take 30 minutes, depending on the "frisk" factor. As an added bonus, the finished portrait can easily be formatted for your phone or Apple Watch.
